Dear MoveCenter Experts: Can you help our international transferees who don’t have US credit purchase homes in the United States?

Yes! MoveCenter has relationships with several lenders who offer programs specifically for foreign nationals relocating to the United States for work. Generally, they will consider employees with E1, E2, G1-G4, L1, and H category visas.

To be eligible, foreign nationals should refrain from taking any action that would establish a US credit file, and ideally, they should begin the mortgage process before leaving their home country.

While credit and underwiring guidelines are subject to change, they typically include:

  • international credit report
  • credit reference letters
  • income history
  • asset history

Purchasing property in the United States can also be a step towards obtaining residency through certain visa programs. However, navigating the intricacies of purchasing a home in the US can be daunting to those from countries where the laws and requirements differ. As a foreign national, buying a property in the US involves additional steps and considerations, so the road to pre-qualification will take a bit longer.

Talk to MoveCenter to learn how we can help your expats with smooth transitions.  Let’s get started soon!
